Re: Casting resins cherry, emerald
I'd be concerned about using such flammable liquids in an enclosed appliance without any means of automatically regulating the temperature of the liquid. One mistake is all it takes for it to go up in flames. Another option that may reduce the risk could be a temperature controlled hotplate with the...

Re: SolusCast: Cracks in heavy model
Sochin, I wonder if the fact that the wax may be trapped behind the resin during the low temp phase (300°F) of the burnout could be an issue? During traditional lost wax casting, the wax would liquefy and drain from the flask during this period, but using a resin print which is still pretty solid at...

Re: optoma replacement bulb
Trying to find an official Optoma replacement that doesn't cost an arm and a leg is difficult. They are sold out on Optoma's website and you can't be 100% sure you are getting an official one anywhere else on the internet. I went through the same experience with my Vivitek projector and getting an o...

Re: optoma replacement bulb
If you don't mind taking apart the lamp assembly, the cheapest way is to buy an official OSRAM bulb that is used in the projector. Disconnecting the wires and re-attaching them is not too difficult. If you take it apart, you can get the model information from the bulb housing and then look online fo...

Re: How to determine amount of gold per wax model?
Since resin has a higher S.G. than wax, I divide the weight of the resin by 1.1, then multiply the result per the specific metal's S.G.

Re: My (failed) castings w/SolusCast
The properties that make a resin more like wax are mutually exclusive to those that provide sharp detail and hardness. ;-) Curing and combustion air seem to be the two important factors to getting a clean mold and a clean burnout. I used a 66/33 red:cherry mix at the beginning and it was a bear to p...

Nice to see the scientific method put into action. We all should be so organized.

Re: My (failed) castings w/SolusCast
That is a lot of negative defects. Looks to me like incomplete burnout of the resin. My guess would be the ash bonded to the investment during the burnout and left those huge craters in the casting. Does it look like the defects settled more on one side versus the other? I noticed that your sprues a...

Re: Casting resins cherry, emerald
This is the surface of one of the first rings if not the first I cast off the Solus that I emailed to Mark. B9 Emerald, Satin Cast and about 15 grams in a Palladium 925 Silver alloy. Devest and rinse under water and a little pickle. Amazing absence of grow lines and the printer speed is about doubl...
