Cleaning optical surfaces

Postby Wdshea » Tue Jan 05, 2016 9:45 pm

I had broken my quartz early on, and could never get that blue haze off of the mirror. Obviously, i tried to clean it, but with minimal force. Eventually i just accepted it, and figured i would find a better solution later.

Well, finally i did. Reading some photography forums i found that they use 'ponds cold cream cleanser'.

I tried it, and can testify to its efficacy.

Dont put too much, but put enough to get a light coat on the surface. Then polish off as much as you can. Then use normal lens cleaning methods. I used premoistened lint free/scratch free cloths.

I know it sounds weird putting hand cream on a lens, but even minolta has suggested it... And it works.

Thanks for the tip. I also heard Acetone works well on the mirror, but haven't tried it myself yet.

Interesting. I know Formlabs recommends PEC-PADs so they should work well too.

Yes. Use PecPads and alcohol for the quarts and the bottom of the film too.

However, I also like using these things. So convenient and cheap. https://www.amazon.com/Zeiss-Pre-Moiste ... 0191YLW34/
