Checking the model integrity before printing

Postby mongerdesigns » Fri Oct 30, 2015 9:17 pm

If sometimes simple models don't seem to be printing correctly or they keep failing. That could mean that there are model/mesh integrity problems.

I suggest using Netfabb Basic (http://www.netfabb.com/downloadcenter.php?basic=1) to check the model before printing. Most simple issues (reversed triangles, mad mesh areas, etc) can be fixed directly in Netfabb. Some, like open surfaces, bad fillets and Boolean operations, may need to be fixed in Cad before outputting the STL.

I just used Netfabb for the first time on a ring model that checked out fine in Rhino mesh repair but kept failing. It's very good at finding problematic areas. In my case it was several small openings left over from edge filleting.

Thanks Emil.
