Sample files for print?

Postby Biceps » Tue Feb 20, 2018 7:56 pm

Hi all,

I just got my aluminum tank with some solus resin. To narrow down any user error I want to try some prints where any failures can be more easily diagnosed.

Where are the sample files(contour) located to do test prints? I only have links to the manuals on dropbox in my original solus emails.

Most fails with any resin I have used was do to support issues mainly. Other problems were in the model itself. So if you follow the same procedures with the emerald resin, you will do fine with SolusCast resin. I just went 4 weeks without a fail. Had a partial fail for some unknown reason. Strained my resin vat down and reprinted fine. A big key is the tension of the film against the quartz top. Plus keeping both clean.

Here is a sample file you can print. No need for any supports. Just open and print.

I read that advice in another post by you I think. When I first got the Solus I would screw all the way down as I thought that was what I should do....... and occasionally I had issues with lines.

Now I just tighten the screws until the tray stops moving and the prints have improved to near perfect. As you said that tension is the key factor IMO to getting great prints out of the Solus.

Lines in Print and Sag

Postby Biceps » Sun Feb 25, 2018 5:21 pm

Thank you. I've got a test print done with a SolusCast sample I have. I'm trying to iron out all the issues before I get on with Proto for work stuff. I think it looks pretty good but seems to have multiple problems that might have been causing my previous prints to fail. This print is with contour 1.9.11 with the default SolusCast profile with the sample ring provided above by mongerdesigns. New aluminum tank with film pre-installed. Infocus in8606d.

There are some tiny lines you can see on the sides. I was moving some files around for the first 10 minutes before I left it alone so I assume it may have something to do with the stronger lines on the base. After that, no one had any access to the room for the next few hours. There's a pronounced step towards the bottom of the ring after the base(marked in image5). Exposure problem? There is a sagging area marked in image 4(no supports were added on this file). Coincidentally, I've had a lot of prints fail around that height using b9 Cherry. Not sure if they're related or not. Outside of the sagging area, the print seems to be about 100% smooth once the ring shape starts to widen from that straight section.

I marked in image 2(green line) that the growth lines aren't parallel with the print bed. Vat tightened down too much? Also marked in image 2 is the waviness of the sides.

How old your projector bulb? Do you know approximately how many hours you have on it?

This could be also related to film. If it's too tight, it will cause lines.

I would like you to run the same test using the SolusCast turbo profile. Please contact info@junction3d.com and I will send you that profile to run.

1 thing I forgot to mention was that before I put the resin in I did put the tank on the quartz to see how tight it felt compared to my old acrylic tank. I noticed that the quartz has a very slight give from side to side when I moved the tank around. It did come off around 6 months back. I put it back in place relying on the adhesive that was already there. I didn't get any additional failures afterward that I wasn't getting before so didn't think much about it.

Hmm. You may need to replace the adhesive. It's a regular 3mm double-sided tape used for LCD screens.
