Jagged Geometry In Contour

Postby Shogun » Fri Oct 19, 2018 10:47 pm

Hey all,

It's been a while since I've used my Solus printer. I opened up Contour today and updated it. I then imported an STL file and noticed some odd geometry that isn't apparent/present on the ring in Matrix. I imported a different ring and the same thing was happening. It never used to do this so I figured I'd bring it up here.

Thanks for any help and suggestions!

Stl export parameters issue from Matrix. You need to adjust the tolerances.

Thanks for the reply. Honestly, I'm unfamiliar with adjusting Matrix settings/tolerances. Is there a specific tolerance I need to adjust? Is there a specific value I should set? And are these tolerances adjusted as I'm saving the file as an STL in Matrix?

Thanks again!

When you export STL, it gives you a little dialog box before saving with lots of detail fields. There is a button on the bottom right 'SIMPLE CONTROLS'. Press that. Then you will only have one text filed called Tolerance. The default is usually 0.1, which is what you probably used. For smooth detail, use at least 0.01. If you want very smooth, use a smaller number like 0.005 or 0.001, but it's probably overkill and will generate a much larger file.

I appreciate the help! Using a value of 0.005 made the model acceptably smooth. For some reason, Matrix was defaulting with a value of 0.0.
