Warped Prints

Postby meshmaker » Tue Apr 16, 2019 7:59 pm

I've noticed some other posts with similar problems, but hadn't seen a solution. If this has been solved, just point me in the right direction.

I'm getting some warping at the top portion of my models. It happens on everything I print and seems to be getting worse. I've cleaned/lubed the lead screw, changed film, re-calibrated the grid, nothing seems to be helping. I have noticed the platform rocks side to side if I gently push/pull with the vat off. Not sure if this is supposed to happen. I've read someone reapplied the double sided tape somehow, but didn't want to rip into the machine if I don't need to.

A seperate but maybe related issue, the platform will stick to the film when trying to separate on the first few layers. After the initial layers, it stops sticking. I've cleaned the paltform, changed the film and it doesn't seem to help.

How did you support the ring? Post pictures. Sometimes supports can pull on an area of the ring, if the resin has lots of shrinkage. The solution is to avoid putting too many supports in that area and/or using thin supports that won't shrink too much and pull on the model.

Thanks for the quick response. Should have mentioned this is Emerald resin, if you can't tell. Using .3 spheres to support. It seems like the model is shifting before the supported area would have a chance to pull it. And the warping goes the opposite way of the supports coming down. I've attached some screenshots of the supports. I can try printing one with minimal supports and see what happens.

There's also some pictures of another one that did the same thing (I don't have screenshots of the supports). Starts warping before the top section prints. This one did not have as many supports as the first, but still getting that some effect.

Have you tried replacing the film?

Yes. New film. This issue had been happening before I changed it as well. Prints fine up to a certain point, then shifts somehow.

New build last night. Grew this same split shank upside-down (far left) and the shift still occurs, but definitely not to the same degree. Getting the same effect on the others.

Could be a damaged Z thread. I suggest contacting support at info@junction3d.com and maybe sending your machine in for diagnostics and repair.

Is your film perfectly flat against the quartz? I had a similar issue when i replaced my film and noticed the film didnt lay 100% flat against the quartz. To check, just empty out the VAT and place it back on with no resin, then use something to poke around on different areas to see if there are spots that are not flat. Might need to use a magnification visor to really see if its good or not.
