[SOLVED] Print failure

Postby pmauddib » Tue Jul 26, 2016 1:13 pm

1st and probably related, I cannot get rid of the flashing I am getting on the build plate. Verified settings on the projector are correct, changed to a VGA cable per junction3d support. After reading though the forums the lines shown on the pics attached, looks like I could be tightening my film too much. What are your opinions?

Your main issue is with supports..... What if you turn it up side down.

I see having pretty much the same amount of supports going the other direction. besides, If a printer can't print a bunch of pipes, something else it wrong. Right now it's not even finishing most of the supports before it gets to the ring.

I carefully double checked everything this morning before re-growing this model. I did notice something contaminating the quartz glass/back of the basement film. It wasn't as bad as this previous post (http://reify-3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=246#p1817), but I was getting similar types of failure with the parts randomly sticking to the film. So I very thoroughly cleaned the glass and back of film with IPA. I just paused the job that was 1/3 of the way though and it looks good so far. I'll keep you guys updated.

Those supports are too extreme. First off they are too tall. Your ring is so high, and you'll be just printing supports for hours before getting to the ring. Lower it.

I usually use about 1mm diameter for supports and 0.3-0.4mm for the support tips.

I suggest printing the sample ring first to see how that works https://www.dropbox.com/s/3wwkwyewoyfnq ... 2.zip?dl=0

The flashing around the bases is definitely not normal. Did you check your projector settings to make sure everything is setup according to the manual? Is your desktop background black?

I'm sure your right about my support thicknesses, I got my instincts from growing on envisiontec machines and their softer resins, and gentler partial cures. So far as the height goes we are casting on large trees and the sprues have to be 3/4inch long. I print the sprues in for molding. I don't mind the extra time when I don't have to worry about a ring falling off a red wax sub sprue when the investment is poured in from about 12 inches above the flask (industrial investing machine). I have attached my latest grow, and I have to say I think I was right about the contaminated quartz window. It came out great this time. Just something I have to make sure I take care of between jobs.

I am still getting a little bit of flashing, making me insecure about little pieces maybe stuck to the film, any advice or is this normal?

I assume dynamic range is at full RGB in your video card settings? If not, change it. Also try lowering the bottom exposure. I found the bottom exposure in the resin profile was much higher than what I needed.

Yes, I do have full RGB done. I didn't start fiddling with any exposure numbers because I haven't had the machine for a while and I didn't want to start going off on a tangent and cause more variables until I had the basics working. I'll try your suggestion of shortening the base layer exposure next if the current job also comes out nice. Right now its set for the default of 15 seconds.

Those look great. Yes, it's important to keep all the optical surfaces clean. You can dial down on the bottom exposure a bit to get rid of that extra flashing.

I'm gonna mark this thread as Solved.
