Calibrating Build Plate -- what kind of paper to use?

Hey guys, long story short, I'm going to be setting up our Solus outfit from the beginning today, and I have a question:

When calibrating the build plate as per this video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1tdX_AKjmE

What type of paper do I use? It's described as "thin" paper, but how thin? Is regular white computer printer paper suitable?

Thanks!

Regular tracing paper will work.

Awesome, thank you. I'm pretty sure we have some in the shop.

Failing that, any thoughts on tissue paper or wrapping paper? Heh, I know we have those.

Thanks!

I have used baking paper for a long time...I just cut out a rectangle about the size of the quartz.
I keep a roll in the office & workshop :-)

Sorry, could I ask one followup question about this?

Is the thickness of the paper extremely crucial, or is there a range of acceptable thicknesses?

In other words, is the paper simply meant to keep the build plate from scratching the quartz, or is the paper creating the proper amount of offset between the build plate and the quartz for the grow layer?

Thanks!

If the paper is too thick, you have have issues with prints sticking to the plate. Tracing paper is good. Or the pieces of paper that were stuck to the printer lid for example.

any reason not to use the film as a spacer?

after the base layers, i'm curious to know how much the 'deck height' of the build plate matters.

No, use paper - you could scratch the film surface - especially if the build platform/head is scratched up with 80grit emery/sand paper.

> have found that a piece paper that is .07mm works perfectly for calibration. I keep a few pieces in a envelope with the velum area build size sheets. I printed the size box on those velum sheets.

i used old film to calibrate mine and never looked back, just curious why you would want to calibrate with something other than the film.
