Any idea on how to support this?

Postby KennyB » Fri Jul 15, 2016 4:46 pm

I'm at a loss on how to support this one. No matter how I orientate it, there is text pointing down somewhere creating nasty overhangs that adding supports to would ruin the text.

It will be a 6+ hour print so, I didn't want to do my usual "support and pray" technique, although I have learned a lot that way :D

Figured, I'd post it up here to see if there are any ideas before I send it to Stuller and have them CAM and cast it, lol.

Any help is, as always, much appreciated.

Ha. The text that's all over the sides kinda make things more difficult. I think you just need to support it as is. Standing up. Put lots of supports on the bottom, following the curvature and then some supports on the inside to support the middle. If your text is creating overhangs, those need to be supported also, which can be a challenge in this case, but doable.

Could divide it into two piece print it then assemble after casting. I would orient the two halves like a unside down U tp print.

This had words all the way around it too. I used the support creator from B9 and made my tips .25mm and went to town. I use a sharp scalpel and removed the supports before they had been cured.
