Explanation of 42XY vs 25XY

Postby hx19035 » Fri Apr 21, 2017 3:54 pm

Here's a noobie question of the day: Why is 42xy lower resolution than 25xy? If I were to imagine DPI (dots per inch) wouldn't 42 dots have more resolution and detail than only 25 in the same inch? I'm probably over-thinking it. And I already tried google, trust me. All I get are things about linear equations and/or advertisements.

The distance between the projector lens and the internal mirror makes perfect sense to me....but the titles of 42xy and 25xy seem backwards.

Thanks!

It's not 42 dots vs 25 dots. It's the size of the dots. 25 micron dots (tiny) vs 42 microns dots (still tiny, but a little larger).

Emil is right. The number of dot is the same for whatever projected area's size, which is 1920 x 1080 (Projector's resolution), so when you make the projected area smaller (25xy), the dot will become smaller and give you higher resolution.

With 4K projector, you can get a 96mm x 54mm build area with 25 micron XY resolution, or 48mm X 27mm build area with 12.5 micron XY resolution, but I am not sure if there is any resin in the market now that can go that low in XY resoluion.
