can solus proto be plated?

Postby manakawari » Wed Jun 28, 2017 11:46 pm

im looking to plate some of my 3d prints, well actually about 200 of them to be honest....these prints will have very fine detail, basically about button size with very small lettering.

id like to have these plated but from what I understand, plating of non metal objects requires the object to be painted in a conductive paint and im worried ill lose all the small detail in these pieces if I do that.

Can anyone suggest a company who can do this for me who perhaps uses a method that will preserve small details?

I need a white metal option and a yellow metal option

thanks!

I'm assuming you need something like this https://www.amazon.com/Copper-Conductiv ... 00A6FO6G8/

Paint the models with it, then plate them in other metals.

Normally you would paint the piece with the conductive material then heavy copper plate the piece. Then you would polish the piece and then gold or rhodium plate the final plating. You will loose detail and the final finish is only as good as the polish on the copper.

just a suggestion , why not cast them in pewter and paint then direct with whatever metal looking paint you need , kinda the way the gamers sell there miniature sets , they are still full of detail

If you were looking to put silver, gold or rhodium on top of the pewter, you would require up to two additional plating layers (copper and nickel or palladium) to prevent bleed through.

hi,

Emil and Mark Miller said its true but if you are looking its easy when you do its diffcult.....I'm in this feild for 21years +

its better to cast in lead to have best details then electroplating process.
