Motor grinding during homing, and no reset

Postby mr_effin » Tue Jun 05, 2018 5:38 pm

While trying to run the homing cycle today the motors started making a grinding noise, and when to the stop. At this point the motor kept grinding, and did not reverse direction. Any suggestions??

I sent a message there, but had not heard back yet. Just figured I would give the Forums a shot! Thanks for the response Monger!

I have what sounds like a similar issue, and its happens once or twice every few months. I’m not sure what the cause is, and it may not be related to the cause of your issues, but here’s a routine suggested to me by Reify:

Remove power to the printer and remove the USB cables from the printer and laptop.
Manually wind the Z screw by hand to raise the build arm up off the homed position. Raise it right to the top. Reinstall power and USB cables.
Restart Contour and try homing again. If it is still doing it, repeat the above and check the Z homing pin is working. Do this by wiggling and pressing it to see if you feel the switch engaging, and then by running a homing cycle and pressing the top of the pin down as the build arm is moving down. If it doesn’t stop the build arm you have an issue here that will require someone else’s help.
If it does stop the build arm, repeat the power-off and resetting process and run another homing cycle. If its still doing it check the tilt sensor. Do this by running a homing cycle and gently lifting the left-hand side (looking from the front) of the quartz block upwards as the build arm is going down. For me this usually removes the weird laboured / grinding noise you’re hearing from the motors. If it doesn’t, repeat the process a couple of times. By then I’m usually good to go and will get another few months of printing with no issues at all. If not, call your supplier.
Hope this helps!
