Can I clean the vat if the film is removed?

Postby RSpangler16 » Tue Oct 04, 2016 1:37 pm

Hello,

I accidentally punctured my film and am waiting for a new one to arrive. Right now we have two vats and two films (one is the punctured one). The vat with the film still intact is intended to be kept for another type of resin but has not been used yet. Is there any way that if I begin to use this new vat I can remove the damaged film from the other one and clean just the vat with something? That way it would be ready for the new resin and would not contaminate it.

I have read not to clean the vat with rubbing alcohol, but what about dish soap? Seeing as the film would not be attached while I clean it I figure I don't have to worry about scratches as much..?

I've got deadlines steadily approaching so any advice you've got would be great!

Yes you can clean with warm soapy water. But make sure to wash away the soap.

Can someone explain why the vat shouldn't be cleaned with alcohol?

The alcohol can cause cracks and crazing inside the acrylic and over time break it. Also, it can get trapped between the gasket and the vat and later get into your resin, contaminate it and ruin it.
