Print Failures since Contour 1.4 upgrade

Postby GAR62 » Sat Apr 08, 2017 1:09 am

Since installing 1.4 all my prints have failed. I have re-calibrated the build plate, new film, re-focused and re-adjusted lens distortion on the Infocus projector all to no avail. This is a model that printed fine before. I'm not necessarily blaming the software, it may be a projector problem. One thing I've always had to do is manually turn on the projector, with the UV shield in place, before I start the print process, otherwise the process aborts if I turn on the projector after I've begun the print setup. When the build plate is all the way down I quickly remove the UV shield. This has always been successful in the past. Now in addition to the model base the whole build area is getting exposed from the beginning of the print. Until now I've been very pleased with the Solus and as I also have a B9 printer, I've printed exclusively on the Solus. Since I have print jobs backing up I'm going to have to get my B9 up and running again. I sure hope someone can help me with this. Thanks,
Gary

When I check this the projector has never shut off automatically. At the end of the print I have to manually slip in the UV shield and shut off the projector.

You can see that the whole build area is lit up in addition to the model base and that is exactly what I get because the light can't get past the base layer to expose any more layers.

Hi Gary,

This is an easy problem to fix. Your FULL RGB is not enabled for some reason. That is the reason why the entire build area is being exposed. Most likely a major windows update has also updated the graphics driver and reset the settings.

Please follow the instructions in the manual on how to set the FULL RGB for your particular graphics card, and everything should go back to normal.

Thanks Emil, You nailed it.
After updates being shut off for many months, I decided a couple weeks ago to update Win10 on my Solus laptop because I wasn't getting security updates and I needed to go online to get the latest Solus update. Of course this always causes the loss of the Solus Contour code which I had to replace. This was in the back of my mind as causing the problem. My apologies for ever thinking it was the software or the hardware. I'll be shutting off all updates on that computer again when I get to the store.
Win10 has been nothing but headaches since installing on my computers when it rolled out. I recently had Win7 reinstalled on my design computer at the store and will get to enjoy it for a couple more years until we are all forced to install Win10. Am I able to put any future SC updates on a thumb drive from this site and install on my Solus laptop without going online? Am I wrong to think the projector should automatically come on from standby when the print starts or is everyone having to hit that button again to have it turn on? I'll be checking the RGB out when I get to the store. Thanks again and best regards---------Gary

Gary, I had problems with mine not cutting on bad off automatically. I had bought a plug from the electric store and it was the wrong one. It should cut on and off by itself, otherwise it uses your lamp up if you forget it.

After setting RGB back to full(it did default to limited)the projector is still projecting a lighted build area instead of going black. I tried changing the HDMI cord, no difference. I tried using a VGA connector, but the Intel Graphics card would not recognize the projector. I tried a mock print to make sure, but the full grey lighted build area is still showing when the print starts. I took the printer off and projected the menu and checked all the settings and everything looks okay. I can't figure it out. Emil, I hope you have some other ideas. Thanks---------------Gary

Are you saying after putting it to full it immediately goes back to limited?

What kind of Intel graphic card you have? It happened to my Intel 520 after updated to the latest version that even with full RGB turn on, it still has bright background. After I uninstall both the driver and the intel software, then reinstall them, it fixed the problem.

Yes. Thank you Sam. Try uninstalling and installing the new intel graphics driver, Gary.

No it doesn't revert back, it just doesn't work. I have an Intel (R) HD Graphics Family card on my Solus Asus laptop. I checked and have the latest driver. Now, I haven't done this before. In device manager, I see in the Intel graphics drop down list, I can uninstall the driver, but won't the screen go black? Does it give me the option to reinstall after uninstalling without disabling the monitor? Thanks Emil and Sam------Gary

What is the name under Device Manager - Display Adapters? It should be Intel 4400, 5500, 520, or 620. When you know the name, you can google for the driver using the name and download it.

You can uninstall the driver in Device Manager, and it will reinstall itself using the latest driver that is available from Windows server. Your screen won't go black. Even if it does go black, it should be for one or two seconds only when the driver is installing. The thing is you need to reinstall the Intel Graphic Properties too. That is where you enable the full RGB, but make sure you download the new one from intel to reinstall it after uninstalling. Good luck.
