Largest project print to date!!

Postby Archerm » Mon Feb 15, 2016 10:06 pm

I have been waiting for the go ahead with this project and finally got it last Friday. It will be Tanzanite and Diamond. It also just so happens the second Solus for the shop came in last week as well. I spent some time setting up the Solus for 42xy for larger projects. It will be nice to have 2 printers so I don't have to change one back and forth. This pendent is 45mm X 35mm. This was the first print on the new Printer. Stoked again!!

Thanks Emil,
It was kind of hard to orient the piece not to get build lines. The sides angle down and away from the two center stones so any way I angled it I would get them. The piece is pretty smooth. It wont take much to clean up the castings. Mark

I am trying to decide what to do about the computers? I am just using the one lap top now and cant decide whether to get another laptop or a pc that will run both. Laptops are cheap.

Have you tried slicing at 25 micron Z? Or even 20 microns? I'm sure it will take away any build lines you might get, but will add some time to the print.

No since it was my first print at 42xy. Is the profile the same except for the slice thickness?

You can try with the same profile. Just change the slice thickness value. If you get overcuring, which you shouldn't, then lower the layer exposure a bit.

I decided to do another print of this piece. I printed it in .030 layers yesterday and today I printed it in .020 layers. There is a noticeable difference in the print. Below are a few pics. Mark

The print on the left is .030 and the one on the right is .020.

These are .020.

Looks great Mark. How much longer did the print take?

It took about 38 minute longer. But will save alot more than that in cleanup. Have you ever tried .01??
