Vulcanising temperature and proto resin?

Postby Zakius » Sun Oct 02, 2016 3:48 pm

Hi..has anyone used a 3D print made with Solus proto resin to make a vulcanized rubber mold. What effect did the temperature have on the 3D print. I want to get some parts spun cast in zinc and wonder if the 3D print from proto resin will hold up to the temperature and pressure?

There is the low heat rubber that should work fine. I don't think you go over 180 degrees to cure the rubber. Guys are curing the resin in a oven at 250.

I tried but I failed. Apparently I haven't been curing my models right to be used for vulcanized molds. Here's a tip Jordi gave me on how to cure:
clean with methanol first, IPA second clean, water with dish soap third, and finally water to get rid of the soap.
Then dry your model before puting it under the light, you can use a hair dryer, then let it cure on the UV lamp for a long time (4 to 6 hours depending on the model) make sure its completly cured ( it have to fil totaly dry).

I have yet to try this. If it doesn't I'll use cold silicone

I use Castaldo no shrink pink @ 310f for 7.5 minutes per layer. No issues with the emerald resin.

Here's an amazing ring by Nacho Riesco from a mold from the proto resin:

Nice! I wonder if that is that cold enameling on the skull?

I was asking the same thing in another thread. I wonder how hot the Proto resin can go.
