Novice questions: casting resin prints

Postby Mikkopee » Tue Feb 14, 2017 4:10 pm

Hello,

We are planning to buy Solus in few weeks and I would like to know basics things when casting resins.

I have heard that Emerald green is best for novice (is it?) and I have never cast resin before..

Now we use Roland mills (JWX-10 and MDX-40A) and green or blue wax. That works great with normal castwax.

When I make my first print, what do you suggest? Own "tree" or with milling wax?

What is the best way to cast resin (emerald green) print compared to "normal" wax casting?

We also use Satincast-20 invest. Is that OK with prints?

Currently we use lostwax vacuum casting.
Metals: silver, 14K yellow and whitegold and sometimes 18K yellow and white gold,

Is there anything else I should know?

And sorry my english.

I always flask my wax and resins separate. I know some do both in same flask. You may have to add boric acid to the satincast to withstand the higher temperature. Resins need to burn out at 1400-1450 degrees. I have great success with the Prestige investment from Stuller. http://www.stuller.com/products/22-4748 ... omRAC=true
You can use for both wax and resin.

Look at this post. Very informative. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=650&start=10
