Resin cast and Satin Cast investment

Has anyone try to cast resins using basic Satin Cas 20 investment?

Here in Finland we dont have any Plasticast or Prestige resellers, so we have only few options when selecting investment..

So is it even possible to use basic investment with these resins?

Yes it is not conducive to consistent casting of any of the resins I have used. There are a bunch of people that are doing different things with it but I cant recall anyone having confidence using it for resins.

You can use any phosphate base investment though more expensive and get top notch results. You should be able to get a phosphate base investment. It is harder to work with but no issues with casting resins.

Removing cured phosphate investments is not as simple as using SatinCast, so you need to take that into consideration as well.

I've heard of one person who is able to use SatinCast over on the B9 forum with B9 Emerald, but I think he is the only person who has consistent success with it based on how his process has been highly tuned for his needs.

You can totally use Satin Cast with emerald.

I've purchased Plasticast for my caster to use for casting, but he was too lazy to use it (because it creates bubbles..or whatever his excuse was) and he never told me. Kept using SatinCast.

All the castings were flawless.

I used Satin Cast 20 investment with Emerald before too. It works just fine. I don't see much different compare to Plasticast. Just use the lowest water power ratio.

And if you need to toughen up the SatinCast, you can add boric acid. I believe 1% to 1.5%. The best way is to dissolve it in warm 82 degree water. Let it cool to room temp. Use this to mix your investment. NOTE it will set up quicker so you need to cut your times in half. I have also just added it to my investment and had good results.

@ Emil Vacuuming plasticast is a pain. It bubbles and rises real fast and most times overflows the mixing bowl. The Prestige optima from Stuller works great.
