looking for suggestion for pewter casting

Postby manakawari » Tue Jun 27, 2017 2:28 pm

id like to use my solus for pewter casting.

I do not have a kiln so im not thinking of using castable resin, just proto resin to make my master and then id like to use that to make a two part mold to cast the pewter into.

I have used high temp silicone in the past and while its fairly decent, I find that the casts just don't come out great and the mold does not last very long.

I have found the best success with cutting two part graphite molds on my cnc and ...with these I am able to preheat them and I find my casts come out great plus they are more stiff and maybe this helps over silicone.

Anyway, I was wonding if you guys had a suggestion for a material, other than silicone, that I can use to make two parts molds with, that will tolerate the high heat from pewter.

id like the material to cure hard, and basically smooth so I can preserve as much of the smooth surface of my solus prints.

Like I said, I just cant seem to get good casts from silicone and some of my molds I intend to try and get quite a few castings from.

Thanks
